When you’re told to stop doing the things you love, it can feel like a part of your identity is taken away. For many of our members, exercise isn’t just “working out.” It’s confidence. It’s routine. It’s community. It’s the feeling of being capable in your body.
This was the reality for one of our members after a life-changing injury. The advice she received was simple and absolute:
“You’ll never train again.”
She was told to walk — and only walk. No Pilates. No gym. No strength work. No training.
For someone who had always valued movement, the impact wasn’t just physical. It was emotional. It was isolating. She felt stuck between fear and frustration — wanting to do more, but scared of making things worse.
Yet, she wasn’t ready to give up.
Fortitude Gym wasn’t new to her. Her son trained with us for years, and she had been one of our early members back when we opened in Lydney. So when she reached a point where she needed support, guidance, and reassurance — she knew where to turn.
Instead of offering generic exercise advice or forcing her to “push through,” we took a different approach.
Together, we created a personalised training plan that respected her limits, allowed space for recovery, and rebuilt strength safely and gradually.
This is the foundation of our small group personal training model — tailored coaching within a supportive environment.
Progress didn’t start with heavy weights or intense sessions.
It started with showing up.
She began with one session a week. Some weeks, pain or fear meant she couldn’t train at all. And that was okay — because progress isn’t linear.
She cried through many of those early sessions — not because of physical discomfort, but because of the emotional weight of returning to movement.
Re-entering a gym after injury requires vulnerability.
It requires trust.
It requires safety.
And that’s where our coaching team stepped in.
Romi, one of our coaches, supported her every step — recognising when she felt unsure, adjusting movements without judgement, and offering calm, steady reassurance.
This wasn’t “just training.”
This was rebuilding belief in her body.
Over time, the small wins began to grow.
She also began working on her nutrition — not through restriction or overly complicated plans, but through understanding balance, fuelling, and portion awareness. No fad diets. No quick fixes. Just education and support.
And the results followed.
18 months on, her progress speaks for itself:
Perhaps most importantly:
“I know my limits, but nobody judges me here. Everyone celebrates every little win with me.”
That is the heart of Fortitude.
Not everyone needs high-intensity workouts or aggressive training.
